A Study of the Correlation between Premenstrual Syndrome and Personality


Abstract
This study was planned and carried out to investigate the correlation between premenstrual syndrome and personality in order to provide informations basic to the prevention, alleviation, and care for the premenstrual syndrome.
Data on premenstrual syndrome were gathered from October 10 to 15, 1989 by questionnaire modified by the researcher based on Moos¢¥s Premenstrual Assessment Form and the Wallston¢¥s Health Locus of Control (HLC) scale whose reliability, validity had been checked out and translated, modified by Hong Eun-Yung to be adapted to koreans, so this method was used as a measuring apparatus personality.
Subjects numbered 93, they are sophomore of nursing college located in Chinju. The correlation and difference between personality traits and premenstrual syndromes analysed by ANOVA and multiple regression.
The results are as follows;
1. External locus of control in personality rates (81.7 %a) are higher than internal locus of control in personality (18.3 %).
2. The 4 highist categories of permenstrual syndrome among 8 categories were revealed to be pain, negative affect, behavioral change, concentration in rank order.
3. No significant correlation between personality and permenstrual syndrome -was revealed.
4. No significant correlation between personality and premenstrual syndrome among 8 categories was revealed.
